Dr. Neelu Nawani is a Professor and Incharge of Microbial Diversity Research Centre, Dr. D. Y. Patil Biotechnology and Bioinformatics Institute, Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune. During her early career, Dr. Nawani received Junior Research Fellowship and Senior Scholarship for Science from Lady Tata Memorial Trust, Young Scientist Fellowship from Department of Science and Technology, DST. She was awarded the title of “Peace Ambassador to United Kingdom” at the hands of Hon’ble Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, through a joint effort of Lila Poonawalla Foundation, Pune and Asha Foundation, UK. She received Research Award from Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune in the year 2014 and she bagged the award second time in year 2015. She also received the Consistent Performance Award from Dr. D. Y. Patil Vidyapeeth, Pune in the year 2020.
Dr. Nawani has teaching and research experience of 25 years. She has successfully completed ten research projects funded by Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, Swedish Research Council, Sweden and DST and DBT, Government of India upto nearly 15 crores. She has 102 research publications and 202 technical abstracts to her credit. She has seven patents, has edited five journal volumes and two books. She has undergone several international scientific trainings at Germany, Sweden and France and has shared her research expertise at different national and international scientific meetings. She has successfully transferred two technologies to industry which include biological air purifier and probiotic formulation for poultry birds. Her research has mainly focused on Environmental and Health Biotechnology.
