Fluent in the language of healthcare? You’re about to be. Medical coding is the backbone of the healthcare industry. This comprehensive starter course takes you from “zero knowledge” to coding compliant claims. Master the “Big 3” manuals—ICD-10-CM (Diagnosis), CPT (Procedures), and HCPCS Level II (Supplies)—and build the foundation for a high-demand remote career.

  • Level: Beginner / Entry-Level
  • Format: Self-Paced Video + Real-World Chart Abstracting
  • Focus: Outpatient Coding & CPC Exam Foundations
  • Outcome: Certified Junior Coding Specialist

Turn Medical Records into Revenue.

Medical coding is one of the most stable and lucrative remote careers in the world, but staring at a CPT manual with 10,000+ codes can feel overwhelming. We change that.

The Medical Coding Launchpad is not just a textbook dump. It is a logic-based training system designed to teach you how to think like a coder. You won’t just memorize codes; you will learn to read a physician’s operative note, identify the “medical necessity,” and assign the alphanumeric codes that ensure providers get paid and patients stay safe.

Whether you want to work for a large hospital system, a private practice, or a fast-growing AI tech company like RapidClaims, this course builds the unshakeable foundation you need.

What You Will Master (The “Big 3”)

  • ICD-10-CM (The “Why”): Translating patient symptoms, diseases, and injuries into diagnosis codes.
  • CPT (The “What”): Coding for surgeries, office visits (E/M), and diagnostic testing.
  • HCPCS Level II (The “Hardware”): Coding for medical supplies, ambulances, and drugs that CPT doesn’t cover.
  • Compliance & Ethics: Understanding HIPAA, avoiding “upcoding” (fraud), and ensuring data integrity.

Course Curriculum

Module 1: The Healthcare Ecosystem & Terminology

  • Revenue Cycle Management (RCM) 101: The life of a claim from patient check-in to payment.
  • Medical Terminology: Breaking down scary words into Roots, Prefixes, and Suffixes (e.g., Cardio- + -pathy).
  • Anatomy Refresher: The body systems you will code most often (Musculoskeletal, Circulatory, Digestive).

Module 2: ICD-10-CM (Diagnosis Coding)

  • Navigating the Alphabetic Index vs. the Tabular List.
  • Coding Conventions: What do “Excludes1” and “Excludes2” really mean?
  • Z-Codes: How to code for preventative care and social determinants of health.

Module 3: CPT (Procedural Coding)

  • E/M (Evaluation & Management): The “bread and butter” of coding—office visits and consultations.
  • Surgical Coding: How to read an operative report and code the “meat” of the surgery.
  • The “Global Package”: Knowing what is included in a surgical code (so you don’t bill for it twice).

Module 4: HCPCS & Modifiers

  • HCPCS Level II: When to use a “J-code” for a drug or an “E-code” for a wheelchair.
  • The Power of Modifiers: Using -25, -59, and -LT/-RT to tell the full story of a complex patient encounter.
  • NCCI Edits: How to check if two codes can be billed together.

Module 5: Career Prep & Future Trends

  • Abstracting Workshop: Practice on redacted, real-world medical charts.
  • AI in Coding: How tools like Computer-Assisted Coding (CAC) assist—but don’t replace—the human coder.
  • Certification Path: A roadmap to sitting for the AAPC CPC (Certified Professional Coder) exam.

Certification

Upon passing the final “Mock CPC” assessment with 80% accuracy, you will be awarded the Certified Junior Coding Specialist credential.

Some topics could be organized in different order. That occurred at the end of training in the last More day when the mentor needed to remind one by one where is the ligand where is the target. It can be helpful to label components (files) like that and label days of training respectively.

The mentor was good, I think a great improvement to the lectures could be gained by a better, More non-ambiguous use of words and terminology.
