Organoids & Organ-on-Chip Microphysiological Systems: Experimental Design, Validation & Preclinical Drug Testing
Design, validate, and interpret advanced human-relevant models for preclinical drug testing and toxicity assessment. Aim
About This Course
This 3-day hands-on workshop introduces participants to the complete experimental workflow, from selecting cell sources and designing organoid or organ-on-chip models to validating biological and engineering performance and interpreting drug-testing results.
Through practical exercises and real-world datasets, participants will evaluate model quality, analyze dose-response relationships, assess toxicity signals, and make evidence-based preclinical go/no-go decisions.
Aim
This workshop aims to provide participants with a practical understanding of how organoids, organ-on-chip platforms, and microphysiological systems are designed, validated, and applied in preclinical drug testing. Participants will learn how to select appropriate models, define experimental conditions, evaluate model quality, interpret dose-response data, and support preclinical decision-making.
Workshop Objectives
- Understand the principles of organoids, spheroids, organ-on-chip platforms, and microphysiological systems.
- Select appropriate cell sources, organ models, extracellular matrices, and experimental platforms.
- Design controls, replicates, exposure conditions, endpoints, and experimental workflows.
- Assess biological, functional, and engineering validation parameters.
- Evaluate morphology, biomarkers, barrier function, tissue-specific responses, reproducibility, and assay variability.
- Design drug exposure and concentration-response experiments.
- Interpret IC50, EC50, efficacy, toxicity, and organ-specific safety data.
- Integrate multiple biological and functional readouts for preclinical assessment.
- Translate MPS-derived data into evidence-based preclinical decisions.
