About This Course

This workshop focuses on designing and implementing net-zero strategies across universities, cities, and industries, using sector-specific tools to assess carbon footprints, reduce emissions, and track progress.

Aim

To equip stakeholders across academia, municipalities, and industries with actionable frameworks, technologies, and policy tools for achieving net-zero carbon emissions, aligned with global climate goals and ESG standards.

Workshop Objectives

  • Promote cross-sectoral climate literacy and action

  • Enable institutions to meet national/international climate targets

  • Equip participants with skills to operationalize net-zero strategies

  • Encourage scalable, data-driven, and accountable decarbonization

  • Integrate behavior, technology, and governance into emissions reduction

Workshop Structure

🔹 Day 1: Understanding Net-Zero and Carbon Accounting

  • Net-zero definition, science, and importance
  • Scope 1, 2, 3 emissions (with examples from a university or factory)
  • Data needed: energy, mobility, waste, water
  • Demo: Calculate emissions using sample Scope 1 & 2 data

🔹 Day 2: Strategies, Tools, and Data Modeling

  • Decarbonization strategies: renewables, offsets, efficiency
  • Python modeling of emission reduction over time
  • Visualizing change using matplotlib/plotly
  • Demo: Simulate GHG reduction scenarios for a university campus

🔹 Day 3: Case Studies and Dashboard Reporting

  • International and Indian case studies
  • Framework for drafting a Net-Zero roadmap
  • Demo: Build a basic net-zero dashboard with Python/Streamlit
  • Group discussion or Q&A: local challenges and actions
