About This Course

This intensive 3-days workshop explores the integration of artificial intelligence in designing climate-adaptive facades, bespoke architectural elements, and resilient urban infrastructures tailored for Arctic environments. Participants will engage in hands-on sessions using free AI tools to develop sustainable solutions addressing the unique challenges of Arctic urbanism.

To empower participants to use Artificial Intelligence (AI), environmental simulation, and data-driven design to develop adaptive facades and urban systems specifically suited to cold, Arctic, and sub-Arctic climates.

  • Applications in Arctic Environments: Challenges and opportunities for facades that adapt to extreme weather conditions (wind, cold, light variation).

  • Activity: Participants will use this AI-powered tool to design and analyze facades that respond to environmental stimuli, emphasizing sustainability and energy efficiency.
  • Objective: Develop a facade system prototype for a hypothetical Arctic building, ensuring energy efficiency and thermal comfort using AI.

Day 2: Designing Bespoke Architectural Elements with AI

  • Topic: Bespoke Architecture and Modular Design with AI
  • Key Concepts: AI for generating customizable architectural fragments, modular designs that address functional and aesthetic needs in Arctic cities.
  • Role of AI: Material optimization, structural integrity under extreme conditions, and energy-efficient designs.
  • Tool: Exterior AI
  • Activity: Participants will upload sketches or photos of architectural elements and use AI to generate bespoke designs tailored for Arctic conditions.
  • Objective: Create a modular set of architectural fragments for a building prototype, ensuring adaptability to varying environmental factors.

Day 3: AI in Arctic Urban Planning and Infrastructure

  • Topic: Urbanism in the Arctic: AI for Resilient Infrastructure
  • Key Concepts: Urban planning for extreme climates, AI-assisted infrastructure systems promoting sustainability (e.g., heating, cooling, water management).
  • Integrating AI with IoT: Predictive maintenance, energy optimization, and real-time urban management in Arctic urbanism.
  • Tool: Urban Visions
  • Activity: Participants will use this AI-powered tool to design and simulate urban infrastructure systems (e.g., heating networks, energy management, transportation) for an Arctic city.
  • Objective: Develop a comprehensive urban infrastructure plan for a sustainable Arctic city, focusing on smart and adaptive solutions driven by AI.
