About This Course

The Windows Server Management program provides hands-on training in Windows Server installation, Active Directory (AD), Group Policy, networking, virtualization, security, and automation. Week 1: Windows Server Fundamentals and Active Directory Management

Module 1: Introduction to Windows Server and System Setup

  • What is Windows Server?
    • Understanding Windows Server roles and editions (Standard, Datacenter, Core).
    • Windows Server GUI vs. Server Core.
    • Setting up Windows Server on a virtual machine (Hyper-V, VMware).
  • Windows Server Management Tools
    • Server Manager, PowerShell, Remote Server Administration Tools (RSAT).
    • Introduction to Windows Admin Center.

Hands-On Lab:

  • Installing and configuring Windows Server on a virtual machine.

Module 2: Active Directory (AD) and User Management

  • Understanding Active Directory (AD)
    • AD structure: Forests, Domains, Organizational Units (OUs).
    • Installing and configuring Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS).
  • User and Group Management in AD
    • Creating and managing users, groups, and organizational units.
    • Group Policy Management (GPO) for user and device configurations.
    • Configuring account policies and password enforcement.

Hands-On Lab:

  • Deploying AD DS and creating user accounts and GPOs.

Week 2: Networking, Security, and Remote Management

Module 3: Windows Server Networking and DHCP/DNS Configuration

  • Windows Server Network Configuration
    • Assigning static IP addresses and configuring NIC teaming.
    • Troubleshooting network connectivity with ipconfig, netstat, ping.
  • Configuring DHCP and DNS Services
    • Installing and managing the DHCP Server role.
    • Setting up DNS Server and configuring records (A, CNAME, MX, SRV).
    • Securing DNS and preventing DNS spoofing attacks.

Hands-On Lab:

  • Setting up a DHCP server and configuring DNS name resolution.

Module 4: Windows Server Security and Firewall Management

  • User Authentication and Access Control
    • Managing NTFS permissions and Shared Folder access.
    • Configuring Role-Based Access Control (RBAC).
  • Windows Firewall and Security Policies
    • Configuring Windows Defender Firewall with Advanced Security.
    • Implementing security baselines with Local and Group Policies.

Hands-On Lab:

  • Configuring shared folder permissions and securing access with firewall rules.

Week 3: Automation, Backup, and Cloud Integration

Module 5: Server Automation and PowerShell Scripting

  • Automating Server Administration with PowerShell
    • Running and scheduling PowerShell scripts.
    • Managing users, groups, and permissions via PowerShell.
  • Task Scheduling and Performance Monitoring
    • Using Task Scheduler for automation.
    • Monitoring system performance with Event Viewer and Resource Monitor.

Hands-On Lab:

  • Writing a PowerShell script to automate user account creation and reporting.

Module 6: Backup, Disaster Recovery, and Cloud Deployment

  • Windows Server Backup and Restore
    • Implementing backup strategies using Windows Server Backup.
    • Disaster recovery planning and system restore techniques.
  • Windows Server in the Cloud
    • Deploying Windows Server on AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud.
    • Configuring remote access and hybrid cloud integration.

Hands-On Lab:

  • Setting up a scheduled backup and restoring a Windows Server instance.
