CRISPR for Cancer Genomics: A Hands-On Workshop

Edit the Genome, Decode the Cure: CRISPR Meets Cancer Genomics

  • Mode: Virtual / Online
  • Type: Mentor Based
  • Level: Moderate
  • Duration: 3 Days (1.5 Hours per day )
  • Starts: 2 August 2025
  • Time: 3:00 PM IST

About This Course

Cancer genomics and CRISPR-Cas9 technologies are reshaping modern biomedical research. This intensive 3-day workshop provides a unique platform to understand the intersection of these two revolutionary domains. Participants will explore the principles of target gene identification using TCGA/COSMIC databases, design optimized gRNAs with tools like CRISPOR and CHOPCHOP, and address off-target concerns crucial for precision genome editing.

The workshop combines theoretical modules with lab-simulated hands-on sessions, covering delivery strategies using viral and non-viral vectors, functional genomic screening with MAGeCK and PinAPL-Py, and post-screening analysis using CRISPResso and IGV. Ethical considerations and data integration practices are also discussed, preparing participants for translational cancer genomics research or industry-oriented roles.

Aim

This hands-on workshop aims to equip participants with in-depth knowledge and practical skills to harness CRISPR-Cas9 for cancer research. Through guided tutorials, real-data walkthroughs, and bioinformatics tools, participants will explore gene editing for functional genomics, target validation, and personalized oncology applications.

Workshop Objectives

  • Understand gene selection from cancer genome databases (TCGA/COSMIC)

  • Design gRNAs using leading online platforms with off-target validation

  • Learn about CRISPR delivery strategies for mammalian systems

  • Analyze CRISPR screening data using bioinformatics tools

  • Integrate results for biological interpretation and ethical reporting

Workshop Structure
