Urban Metabolism Modeling with AI

Tracking resource flows (energy, water, waste) in megacities.

  • Mode: Virtual / Online
  • Type: Mentor Based
  • Level: Advanced
  • Duration: 3 Days(60-90 Minutes Each day)
  • Starts: 15 September 2025
  • Time: 5:30 PM IST

About This Course

This 3-day workshop explores urban metabolism modeling with AI, focusing on how megacities consume and circulate resources like energy, water, and waste. Participants will learn to source and process urban data, build AI models for forecasting and anomaly detection, and create interactive dashboards for simulation and policy support. The program blends theory with hands-on practice, equipping attendees with tools to design smarter, more sustainable urban systems.

Aim

To enable participants to apply AI-driven modeling and simulation for tracking and optimizing urban resource flows (energy, water, waste) in megacities, fostering smarter decision-making, sustainable planning, and effective policy support.

Workshop Structure

📅 Day 1 – Foundations & Data Understanding

  • Introduction to Urban Metabolism: Concepts & Global Case Studies
  • Resource Flow Mapping in Megacities (Energy, Water, Waste)
  • Identifying and Sourcing Urban Data (IoT, Satellite, City Dashboards)
  • Hands-on: Collecting & Preprocessing Real Urban Datasets

📅 Day 2 – AI for Resource Flow Modeling

  • Applications of AI in Urban Systems: Forecasting & Optimization
  • Machine Learning for Resource Flow Prediction
  • Anomaly Detection in Utilities (Leaks, Waste Overflow, etc.)
  • Hands-on: Building AI Models to Forecast Energy & Water Demand

📅 Day 3 – Simulation, Visualization & Real-World Application

  • Urban System Simulation & Digital Twins for Smart Cities
  • Visualizing Urban Resource Flows (QGIS, Streamlit Dashboards)
  • Communicating Results for Policy & Decision Support
  • Hands-on: Build a City Resource Dashboard with AI Insights
