AI for Epidemiology: Predicting and Managing Health Crises

Harness AI to Predict, Model, and Optimize Pandemic Responses for Healthier Futures.

  • Mode: Virtual / Online
  • Type: Mentor Based
  • Level: Moderate
  • Duration: 3 Days (60-90 Minutes Each Day)
  • Starts: 7 February 2026
  • Time: 5 : 30 PM IST

About This Course

This 3-day hands-on workshop focuses on the use of AI for pandemic prediction, epidemiological modeling, and vaccine distribution optimization. Participants will learn to build AI models for predicting disease outbreaks, simulate epidemic dynamics with machine learning, and develop AI-driven solutions to optimize vaccine distribution. Practical exercises will involve using real-world data to forecast disease spread, assess intervention scenarios, and ensure equitable vaccine rollout.

Aim

To equip participants with the skills to use AI in predicting disease outbreaks, modeling epidemiological scenarios, and optimizing vaccine distribution to manage pandemics effectively.

Workshop Structure

📅 Day 1 — AI Applications in Predicting and Managing Pandemics

  • Pandemic prediction: Understanding how AI can predict disease outbreaks by analyzing historical data, genetic sequences, and real-time surveillance data
  • Epidemiological forecasting: AI-based models for early warning systems to track and predict disease spread (e.g., COVID-19, influenza)
  • Risk assessment: How AI models assess population vulnerability and predict hotspots for potential outbreaks
  • Hands-on: Build a predictive model using historical disease outbreak data to forecast the spread of a disease in specific regions
  • Deliverable: A predictive model to forecast the likelihood of an outbreak based on historical data

📅 Day 2 — Predictive Analytics for Epidemiological Modeling

  • Epidemiological modeling: Introduction to common epidemiological models (SIR, SEIR) and how AI enhances their predictive capabilities
  • Feature engineering: Using social, environmental, and mobility data to enhance epidemiological models
  • AI in outbreak scenarios: How machine learning and AI models improve predictions during real-time outbreaks and assess intervention strategies
  • Hands-on: Train a machine learning model to predict disease spread under various intervention scenarios (e.g., lockdown, vaccination)
  • Deliverable: A predictive epidemiological model that simulates outbreak dynamics under different interventions

📅 Day 3 — Machine Learning in Vaccine Distribution Optimization

  • Vaccine distribution: How AI optimizes vaccine distribution logistics, prioritization, and equity considerations
  • Supply chain optimization: Using AI to model vaccine storage, transportation, and delivery to ensure timely and efficient distribution
  • Health equity: AI models to ensure equitable vaccine access across different population groups
  • Hands-on: Develop a machine learning model to optimize vaccine distribution, focusing on regional priorities and maximizing coverage
  • Deliverable: An AI-driven vaccine distribution model with optimized strategies for equitable and efficient rollout

Who Should Enrol?

  • Public health professionals, epidemiologists, data scientists, healthcare managers, and policymakers involved in pandemic response and disease management.
  • Basic understanding of epidemiology, machine learning, and AI is helpful but not required.
  • Participants interested in AI applications in public health and healthcare systems.
