About This Course

The Gut–Brain Axis represents the complex communication system between the gastrointestinal tract and the brain, influencing a range of physiological processes, including metabolism, appetite regulation, and the body’s response to nutrition. GLP-1, a peptide hormone primarily involved in insulin regulation, has emerged as a promising therapeutic target for treating obesity, type 2 diabetes, and metabolic syndrome. Furthermore, prebiotics, which positively modulate the gut microbiota, have shown potential in enhancing GLP-1 secretion and improving metabolic health.

Aim

This workshop aims to explore the emerging Gut-Brain Axis and its role in metabolic health, focusing on GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) and prebiotics as potential therapeutic agents. Participants will gain insights into how the gut microbiota and its metabolites interact with the brain to influence metabolic functions, obesity, diabetes, and other metabolic disorders. The workshop combines cutting-edge science and applied clinical research for advancing understanding of gut-brain interactions in metabolic health.

  2. Key communication pathways: neural, endocrine, immune, and microbial
  3. Role of the gut microbiome in mood, cognition, appetite, and inflammation
  4. Gut–brain axis relevance in obesity, diabetes, depression, and cognitive decline
  5. GLP-1 biology: secretion, receptors, and physiological functions
  6. GLP-1 in appetite regulation, insulin secretion, satiety, and gastric emptying
  7. Emerging clinical relevance of GLP-1 in metabolic and brain health
  8. Interactive session: live poll and pathway-based discussion

Day 2: Prebiotics, Microbiome Modulation, and Precision Nutrition

  1. Introduction to prebiotics: definition, types, and evolving concepts
  2. Dietary sources and mechanisms of action of prebiotics
  3. Prebiotics in shaping microbiome diversity and beneficial metabolites
  4. SCFAs, bile acids, and neuroactive compounds in gut–brain signaling
  5. Role of prebiotics in satiety, cognition, inflammation, and metabolic health
  6. Why prebiotic response differs across individuals
  7. Biomarkers and personalization in precision nutrition approaches
  8. AI applications in microbiome analysis and personalized nutrition planning
