Program Structure

Module 1: Circular Nanomaterials

  • Waste streams and value chains.
  • Products: nano-silica, nano-carbon, metal oxides, biochar-based nanos.
  • Use cases: cement, coatings, catalysts, adsorbents, sensors.
  • Constraints: impurities, variability, safety, compliance.

Module 2: Feedstock and Pre-Treatment

  • Sorting and basic feedstock testing.
  • Pre-treatment: washing, drying, size reduction.
  • Purification: leaching/separation (intro).
  • Safety: dust, fumes, heavy metals, PPE basics.

Module 3: Production (Top-Down)

  • Milling and size reduction concepts.
  • Ultrasonication and exfoliation workflows.
  • Thermal routes: pyrolysis to nano-carbon/biochar.
  • Process control: time, energy, yield, contamination.

Module 4: Production (Bottom-Up)

  • Sol-gel for silica/oxides (workflow).
  • Hydrothermal and precipitation routes.
  • Green synthesis concepts (intro).
  • Nucleation/growth control basics.

Module 5: E-Waste to Nanomaterials

  • Metal recovery overview and safety-first handling.

Final Project
