Advanced Nano-Bio Interfaces & Immune Interactions
Decode Immune Responses to Nanomaterials—Design Safer Nano-Enabled Solutions.
About This Course
When nanomaterials enter biological environments, their surfaces rapidly interact with proteins, membranes, and immune cells—creating a dynamic “nano–bio interface” that controls how the body perceives, transports, and responds to them. These interactions govern key outcomes such as circulation time, targeting efficiency, macrophage clearance, complement activation, cytokine signaling, and hypersensitivity responses. Understanding these mechanisms is essential for building nanomedicines and biosensors that are both effective and safe.
This workshop provides an advanced overview of nano–bio interactions with special emphasis on immune recognition pathways and immunomodulation. Participants will explore protein corona engineering, immune cell–nanoparticle interactions, inflammation mechanisms, and immune safety assessment approaches. Dry-lab learning will include interpreting immunology datasets, reading toxicity/biocompatibility profiles, and mapping nanodesign decisions to immune outcomes—supporting safe-by-design translation.
Aim
This workshop aims to build strong understanding of nano–bio interfaces and how nanomaterials interact with biological systems, especially the immune system. Participants will learn how surface chemistry, size, charge, and protein corona formation influence biodistribution, cellular uptake, inflammation, and immunotoxicity. The program connects mechanistic biology with design strategies for safer, more effective nano-enabled therapeutics and diagnostics. It is designed to support research and translational development.
