About

The NoSQL Databases and Data Modeling program provides an in-depth understanding of NoSQL architectures, distributed storage, and data modeling techniques across different NoSQL database types. Participants will gain hands-on experience with MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, Firebase, and Neo4j, learning how to apply NoSQL best practices for Big Data, cloud computing, and real-time applications.

Aim

To equip participants with the knowledge and skills required to design, manage, and optimize NoSQL databases, focusing on schema-less data modeling, scalability, and performance tuning for modern applications.

Program Objectives

  • To introduce participants to NoSQL databases and their key differences from SQL.
  • To provide hands-on experience with NoSQL data modeling and indexing strategies.
  • To train participants in scaling and optimizing NoSQL databases for high-performance applications.
  • To explore security and cloud-based NoSQL implementations.
  • To prepare professionals for careers in NoSQL database administration, Big Data, and cloud data engineering.

Program Structure

Week 1: Introduction to NoSQL and Database Fundamentals

Module 1: Understanding NoSQL Databases

  • What is NoSQL?
    • Differences between SQL and NoSQL databases.
    • CAP Theorem: Consistency, Availability, Partition Tolerance.
    • When to choose NoSQL over traditional RDBMS.
  • Types of NoSQL Databases
    • Key-Value Stores (Redis, DynamoDB).
    • Document Stores (MongoDB, CouchDB).
    • Column-Family Stores (Cassandra, HBase).
    • Graph Databases (Neo4j, Amazon Neptune).

Hands-On Lab:

  • Setting up a NoSQL environment (MongoDB or Cassandra) and inserting basic data.

Module 2: Data Modeling in NoSQL

  • Schema Design in NoSQL vs. Relational Databases
    • Denormalization vs. normalization.
    • Understanding hierarchical, key-value, and flexible schema design.
  • Choosing the Right NoSQL Model for a Use Case
    • Best practices for different data models in NoSQL databases.

Hands-On Lab:

  • Designing a schema for a document-based NoSQL database (MongoDB).

Week 2: Working with NoSQL Databases and Query Optimization

Module 3: Querying and Indexing in NoSQL

  • CRUD Operations in NoSQL
    • Insert, Read, Update, Delete operations in different NoSQL databases.
  • Indexing and Performance Optimization
    • How indexing works in NoSQL databases.
    • Using compound indexes for query performance improvement.

Hands-On Lab:

  • Performing CRUD operations and creating indexes in MongoDB/Cassandra.

Module 4: Scalability and High Availability in NoSQL

  • Replication and Sharding
    • How NoSQL handles distributed data.
    • Configuring replication for high availability.
  • Horizontal vs. Vertical Scaling
    • How NoSQL databases scale and handle large volumes of data.

Hands-On Lab:

  • Implementing replication and sharding in MongoDB/Cassandra.

Week 3: Advanced NoSQL Topics and Cloud-Based NoSQL Solutions

Module 5: Security, Transactions, and Backup in NoSQL

  • Security in NoSQL Databases
    • Authentication, authorization, and access control.
    • Data encryption and secure communication.
  • Transactions and Consistency Models
    • Eventual consistency vs. strong consistency.
